About Colleen Stinchcombe

I’m an independent writer and editor who loves piecing together a good story. My work covers environmental issues, science, health, outdoor recreation, and travel. I particularly love highlighting people who are solving the world’s most pressing problems.

Over the years, and in non-pandemic times, my writing brought me to Vietnam, the Caribbean, the UK, Chile, and all across the domestic US. In 2017, I spent four months living out of a backpack and hiking 1,000 miles in California and Oregon. Adventure is a big part of what gets me up in the morning.

My journalism appears in Sierra Magazine, Outside Online, The Seattle Times, Lonely Planet, SELF, Future Human, Modern Farmer, and many others. Photography often accompanies my written work, and you can see some of the photos I’ve taken on assignment here. I’ve been a guest journalist on podcasts like Canada’s The Big Story, where I spoke about my coronavirus reporting on travel safety. See more of my journalism work here.

In addition to journalism, I use research and digital media expertise to write content marketing materials, create content strategy packages, plan and execute quarterly production, and bridge SEO, sales, and editorial needs. My clients include Tripadvisor, Rover, REI, and LevelTen Energy.

If you have a strategy in place but need someone to execute it, hire me to write profiles, SEO-driven service explainers, features, case studies, newsletters, or just about anything else requiring wordsmithery. I believe in using research, data, and storytelling to drive a message home. Learn more about that here.

When not on assignment or crouched over my laptop, I’m likely hiking, biking, or curling up in any available sunbeam at my home near Seattle, WA.
